Medical Services Principal Secretary (PS) Dr. Oluga Ouma has joined other Kenyans and international community in mourning the passing on of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Describing him as a revered statesman, visionary leader and a tireless defender of democracy and social justice, PS Oluga said that in Raila’s death, Kenya and the world had lost a true leader whose vision and integrity will continue to guide future generations.
“Rt. Hon. Odinga’s life was one of service, courage and unwavering patriotism. For decades, he stood at the forefront of Kenya’s struggle for freedom, equity, and good governance sacrificing personal comfort to secure a better and fairer nation for all,” PS Oluga eulogised Raila.
According to PS Oluga, Raila’s leadership transcended politics, inspiring hope among millions and shaping the course of Kenya’s democratic and socio-economic transformation.
He also described Raila as a unifying figure who championed inclusivity, peace and national cohesion. “His devotion to public service and his steadfast belief in the power of dialogue and reconciliation remain an enduring example of selfless leadership.”
He added: “On behalf of the State Department for Medical Services and the entire health fraternity. I extend my deepest condolences to Mama Ida Odinga, the Odinga family, friends and all Kenyans as we celebrate a life that profoundly shaped our nation’s destiny.”
Raila died on Wednesday, October 15 morning while undergoing treatment in Kochi City. He collapsed during a morning walk within a Ayurvedic hospital.
He was rushed to Devamatha Hospital in Koothattukulam, where he was pronounced dead at around 7:22 am Kenyan time.
