Twenty-two-year-old environmental activist Truphena Muthoni has established a new milestone by maintaining a continuous tree hug for three full days (72 hours).
Beginning her effort on December 8th, Muthoni aimed to surpass her earlier 48-hour achievement.
She views this form of silent demonstration as an effective way to raise awareness about forest destruction while appealing to people’s environmental consciousness without divisive confrontation.
“This peaceful form of advocacy transcends our divisions, as it avoids the conflicts we’ve seen in other demonstrations and instead appeals to our shared humanity,” Muthoni explained.
She described the experience as personally healing while strengthening her message about protecting natural resources.
Her 72-hour endeavor attracted widespread attention across Kenya, with numerous prominent figures offering their backing.
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga inaugurated the attempt and provided ongoing encouragement. Political commentator PLO Lumumba visited on the second day, while former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua praised her efforts publicly.
Media coverage was extensive, and community members gathered near the Nyeri Governor’s headquarters to cheer her on throughout the challenge.
Muthoni’s determination has been rewarded with substantial gifts from supporters.
A gaming company pledged one million Kenyan shillings, while another donor offered 100,000 shillings toward official record registration costs.
Additional promises include a premium folding smartphone, beauty products, tailored clothing for three months, and a complimentary three-day coastal vacation.
Having completed her 72-hour feat, Muthoni now holds the official Guinness World Records title for the longest duration hugging a tree.
