A group of assailants on Thursday, August 21 afternoon attacked and injured TV47 journalists at City Cabanas area along Mombasa Road.
The TV47 crew, consisting of Videographer Johnes Ng’ang’a and Reporter Mike Kaguongo, had been deployed to cover the homecoming of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua along Mombasa Road, when they were attacked by the unknown assailants.
During the vicious attack that left the crew injured, the assailants stole essential equipment, including a camera and mobile phones.
“Cape Media Ltd is in touch with the affected team, who have already reported the incident to relevant authorities,” Head of TV47 Macharia Wamugo says. “We are providing them with the necessary medical, emotional, and logistical support as they recover from this traumatic experience.”
Wamugo, on behalf of Cape Media Limited CEO Mwenda Njoka, has strongly condemned the blatant attack on press freedom, calling on authorities to swiftly investigate the incident and ensure the safety of all journalists.
Reports indicate that several other jurnalists from different media houses are also nursing injuries after suffering smilar attacks from the goons who were armed with crude weapons such as clubs.
Royal Media Services journalists were also attacked and rushed to hospital, although the company is yet to issue a statement.
Standard Group journalists were left stranded after the goons allegedly took away their car keys.
