Twelve arrested after youths block and stone Rachel Ruto’s convoy in Siaya

Twelve suspects have been arrested in Siaya after a group of rowdy youths attempted to obstruct First Lady Rachel Ruto’s convoy and hurled stones at police officers following a women’s economic empowerment function on September 8, 2026.

The incident occurred shortly after the conclusion of the function at the Siaya Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) grounds, as the convoy was making its way to a designated landing and take-off site.

A group of youths allegedly attempted to force their way through a secured gate, blocking the convoy’s path and throwing stones at police officers manning the entrance.

Officers responded swiftly, restoring order and arresting 12 suspects believed to have been involved in the chaos.

The suspects are currently in custody undergoing processing pending arraignment, while detectives continue investigations to identify and apprehend any other individuals involved in the incident.

The DCI said people have a right to peaceful assembly and expression, but warned that violence, blocking lawful activities and attacking police will not be allowed.
