A joint security operation in Rongai has led to the arrest of two men and the recovery of a firearm that had been stolen from a police officer.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations announced this successful mission.
Detectives from DCI Kajiado North, working alongside officers from Ngong Police Station, moved in on the Kware and Mandazi Road areas within Rongai town following a tip-off, arresting Cyrus Mureithi Mburu, 54, and Peter Kangethe, 49.
A search of Mburu’s residence turned up a loaded magazine carrying 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition, alongside a half-litre of gun oil, raising immediate red flags for the investigators on the ground.
Digging deeper, detectives then recovered a Ceska pistol bearing serial number F9418, which had previously been robbed from an officer serving with the Security of Government Buildings unit.
The search did not end there, two imitation firearms, a pair of handcuffs, a bunch of keys and a Maasai sword were also seized and recorded as exhibits.
Both suspects are currently being held at Ngong Police Station as investigators build their case ahead of arraignment.
The DCI has reaffirmed its commitment to keeping the public safe and pursuing those who seek to weaponize stolen government property for criminal ends.
