Two guns, more than 130 bullets recovered as police arrest illegal firearms dealer at Kanyonyo Vehicle Checkpoint

A suspected illegal arms dealer believed to be a major player in the illicit firearms trade has been arrested at the Kanyonyo Vehicle Checkpoint, along the Thika-Garissa Highway, while travelling to Nairobi.

Security officers recovered firearms and a large cache of ammunition from the vehicle.

The arrest was made on Wednesday, July 8, following a targeted search of the suspect’s vehicle at the checkpoint.

Preliminary investigations established that the suspect is deeply involved in the sale, supply, and distribution of illegal firearms and ammunition across multiple regions of the country.

Detectives say the interception has disrupted a significant criminal supply chain that was intended to fuel criminal activity within Nairobi and its surrounding areas.

The suspect is currently in custody, assisting detectives with ongoing investigations aimed at uncovering his wider network of suppliers and buyers.

He is set to be arraigned in court to face the relevant charges.
