Two suspected members of deadly gang in Diani arrested

Police in Diani, Kwale County, on Monday, February 9 arrested two suspects believed to be key members of a dreaded gang that has been terrorising residents in Tanduri area along the Diani beachfront.

The officers, based at Diani Police Station, were on a security operation forming part of an intensified sweep along the Ukunda beachline when they made the arrests.

The operation is part of the efforts aimed at flushing out organised criminal elements seeking to disrupt peace in the renowned coastal destination.

The two suspects, identified as Kennedy Hassan (29) and Brian Mwangi Karanja (24), are currently in police custody at Diani Police Station, undergoing processing pending arraignment.

The arrests come after the shoot-to-kill order issued by Coast Regional Police Commander Ali Nuno on Saturday, February 7.

There has been an increase in cases of violent attacks on innocent members of the public in Mombasa, Kwale, and Kilifi counties by criminals who rob them of their hard-earned money and other valuable items.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has reiterated that it remains resolute in its mission to dismantle criminal networks and restore public confidence, ensuring that Kenya’s streets and beaches remain safe for residents and visitors alike.
