Two suspected phone snatchers believed to be part of an organised motorcycle-riding criminal syndicate were arrested in Kasarani, Nairobi County, as security agencies intensified efforts to curb street crime in the capital.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 22, the National Police Service (NPS) said officers from Kasarani Police Station and Githurai 44 Police Post conducted the operation following intelligence reports and information received from members of the public.
According to the NPS, the suspects were intercepted in the Kamiti Road and Naivas areas within Kasarani Sub-County before officers carried out a search that led to the recovery of five assorted mobile phones believed to have been stolen.
“Police officers from Kasarani Police Station and Githurai 44 Police Post today, 22 July 2026, arrested two suspected phone snatchers. They are believed to be part of an organised syndicate operating on motorcycles within Nairobi,” the statement read.
The service added that the two suspects have since been placed in police custody and will remain there pending their arraignment in court. The recovered mobile phones have been secured as exhibits to support investigations and prosecution.
The arrests come amid ongoing police operations targeting criminal gangs involved in phone snatching and other robberies across Nairobi, where motorcycle-riding suspects have increasingly been linked to such crimes.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the National Police Service urged Kenyans to continue working closely with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities.
“The National Police Service remains committed to dismantling criminal networks across the country,” the statement said, encouraging members of the public to share information through the nearest police station or the available emergency and reporting channels.
Police believe public cooperation, coupled with intelligence-led operations, will play a critical role in disrupting criminal syndicates and enhancing security across Nairobi and the rest of the country.
