In what appears to be a continuation of efforts to expand President Ruto’s “broad-based government,” United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leaders are now extending an olive branch to key opposition figures — Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i — urging them to join hands with the Kenya Kwanza administration ahead of the 2027 General Election.
This comes barely a day after President William Ruto and KANU chairman Gideon Moi buried the hatchet in a symbolic handshake at Kabarak.
Speaking during a women’s fundraising event in Mochongoi, Baringo South, area MP Charles Kamuren and Baringo Woman Representative Florence Jematia said Kenya’s political landscape is entering a new phase of unity talks that could see President Ruto run unopposed in 2027.
“After Gideon Moi and the President came together, we now want to see Kalonzo and Matiang’i join the team so that we move as one country,” Jematia said amid cheers from the crowd.
Kamuren echoed her sentiments, saying that the ongoing talks are meant to consolidate peace and development rather than deepen divisions.
The calls come at a time when Kenya’s political class is reconfiguring itself, with signals that the traditional government–opposition divide may soon blur.
The recent Kabarak handshake between Ruto and Gideon Moi — once fierce political rivals in the Rift Valley — has ignited speculation of a broader realignment that could reshape the 2027 political field.
