The final of the UEFA Nations League will see Spain take on Portugal on Sunday June 8th at the Allianz Arena, this is after Spain held off a late French resurgence to secure a dramatic 5-4 victory in the UEFA Nations League semi-final on Thursday night at the MHPArena in Stuttgart, Germany.
Portugal on the other hands defeated hosts Germany 2-1 in the first semi-final following a 68th minute goal from Cristiano Ronaldo.
In the Second Semi-Final ,Spain took control early, with Nico Williams opening the scoring in the 22nd minute, assisted by Mikel Oyarzabal.
Just three minutes later, Williams turned provider, setting up Mikel Merino to double the lead. A late first-half goal by Spain’s Dean Huijsen was ruled offside by VAR, keeping the score at 2-0 at halftime.
The second half saw Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal shine, scoring a penalty in the 54th minute before Pedri added a sublime fourth goal shortly after.
France’s Kylian Mbappé pulled one back from the spot in the 58th minute, but Yamal struck again in the 67th minute to restore Spain’s four-goal cushion.
France fought back fiercely late on. Rayan Cherki, making his senior debut, scored a stunning volley in the 79th minute, followed by an own goal from Spain’s Dani Vivian in the 84th minute.
Kolo Muani then headed in a goal in stoppage time, bringing France within one, but time ran out on their comeback hopes.
Spain’s clinical start and Yamal’s brilliance proved decisive in a pulsating encounter, the highest-scoring match in Nations League history.
Spain remain unbeaten in their last 12 Nations League games and will face Portugal in the final on Sunday in Munich, where Cristiano Ronaldo’s side will look to claim the title after their semi-final win over Germany.
