The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has announced the appointment of Harriet Okach as its new Chairperson, following the resignation of Alexander “Sasha” Mutai on May 30, 2025.

The decision was made unanimously by the KRU Board during a meeting held on June 5, 2025, at the RFUEA Grounds.

Harriet Okach is no stranger to rugby administration. She joined the KRU Board at the 2023 Annual General Meeting, where she received the highest number of votes for any board member.

Before her board role, she served as the Honorary Treasurer of Kisumu RFC and has since been the KRU Director in charge of Marketing and Commercial, where she played a pivotal role in increasing the sport’s visibility and attracting new partnerships.

Outside the rugby pitch, Harriet is a seasoned entrepreneur and communications strategist with over 15 years of experience in both the public and private sectors.

Her influence extends beyond Kenya; she is one of 12 African women selected for World Rugby’s “Impact Beyond 2025” legacy project. Through Kenya’s “Unstoppable Rugby for Change” initiative, Harriet has championed the use of rugby as a tool to combat gender-based violence and promote girl-child education in underserved communities.

Upon her appointment, Harriet expressed gratitude to the KRU affiliates, board, and stakeholders for their support. She called for unity: “Sports unite, so please let’s all come together in growing this game that we all love. Asante sana.”
