Manchester United has been knocked out of the Carabao Cup in devastating fashion, after a lackluster performance losing 3-2 to Brighton and Hove Albion in the third round.

Youngster Shea Lacy put united ahead in the 8th minute of the game on his full debut, before Mason Mount doubled the home side’s lead in the 10th minute giving them a comfortable lead early in the contest.

In the second half, the momentum switched to Brighton’s side and they wasted no time. Central midfielder Pascal Groß placed the ball into the bottom corner to level the game in the 65th minute.

Not long after, substitute Maxime De Cuyper scored the winning goal after his team broke down Man United’s press and played through their defense to complete an impressive comeback in the 69th minute.

Brighton held on in the final minutes to knock out Manchester United in a shocking thriller at Old Trafford.

They have now beaten them four times in their last five meetings across all competitions, making them a tough nut to crack for the red devils.

It is now back to back defeats for head coach Michael Carrick, who addressed the media after the game and said he fully takes responsibility for the game.

“We can’t put ourselves in that position after being ahead in the game,” Carrick said. “We have to react to it, we have a game on Sunday that’s the crucial thing now. There’s a lot of frustration and around and we have to flip that and start winning games again. It feels bad in the moment because we haven’t had a great two or three weeks but it doesn’t mean you can’t win another game of football quickly.”

Man United will look to bounce back in the Premier League on Sunday as they face Fulham away at the Craven Cottage at 6.30pm EST, before the players go on a two week international break to represent their countries.
