A man who had been defrauding M-Pesa shop attendants across Garissa town and its surroundings by posing as a Safaricom agent has been arrested by police officers from Garissa Police Station.
Edwin Mugoi’s latest scheme unfolded at an M-Pesa shop in the Posta Area of Bulla Hodhan, where he approached an unsuspecting attendant under the pretence of offering a line upgrade.
Using the ruse, Mugoi swapped the attendant’s phone line and fraudulently transferred funds to another account, leaving the victim both without his line and out of pocket.
Officers responded swiftly and arrested Mugoi shortly after the incident.
A search led to the recovery of multiple SIM cards, four mobile phones, two SIM card registration gadgets, and four chargers, the tools of his trade.
Mugoi is currently in custody undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment.
