Two suspects have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery in which a woman lost KSh1 million in Chemobo Village, Aldai Constituency, Nandi County.
The suspects, identified as 54-year-old Charles Alure Kutai and 34-year-old Hillary Akurumana, were arrested during an intelligence-led operation in Mudete, Sabatia Sub-County, following investigations into the October 19, 2026 incident.
According to detectives, the victim had withdrawn the money from Co-operative Bank’s Mbale Branch at around 2:50 pm.
She was accompanied by a friend and intended to use the cash to purchase building materials.
After leaving the bank, the two boarded a matatu before hiring a motorcycle at Shamakhokho PSV stage to take them to Chemobo.
However, their journey was interrupted near Erusui Girls Secondary School when a white Toyota Probox blocked their way.
Four men reportedly emerged from the vehicle, two armed with pistols, and robbed them at gunpoint.
The attackers escaped with KSh1 million packed in a shopping bag.
They also took another bag containing the victim’s national identity card, Co-operative Bank ATM card and an Itel mobile phone before fleeing towards Serem Town.
Following investigations, detectives from Serem and Sabatia, led by the Officer in Charge of CRIB Western, conducted a late-night operation that resulted in the arrest of the two suspects.
A search at Kutai’s residence led to the recovery of several items suspected to be linked to criminal activities. They included two pocket phones, ten assorted mobile phones, a handcuff, Safaricom and Airtel SIM cards, a penknife, a screwdriver and several cut-out motor vehicle number plates.

Detectives suspect the two may also be linked to other robberies reported in the region.
Investigations are ongoing as officers pursue additional leads and seek to identify other suspected accomplices who remain at large.
