Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru is set to commission the new Kianyaga Level 4 Medical Complex before the year ends, with equipping of the ultra-modern facility already underway.
Speaking during an inspection tour to check on it readiness for operationalization, Waiguru said that construction of the140 beds capacity complex is now complete.
She said that the complex will offer comprehensive medical services; incorporates a modern maternity wing and a Newbon Unit (NBU), surgical wards, theatres and emergence and accident section to serve about 300 patients on a daily basis.
Waiguru pointed out that the hospital was fulfillment of a promise that she made while seeking re-election for a second term.
“There could be those who doubted whether I would deliver but you can now see I have delivered the development promise. The hospital is now here for all to see,” she added.
Elevation of Kianyaga Hospital from a level three to a level four facility is one of Waiguru’s elaborate transformation projects aimed at strengthening healthcare facilities and enhancing access to quality and affordable healthcare.
The new facility will have surgical theatres, diagnostic laboratories, pre-natal and post-natal, maternity wings, kangaroo mother care, outpatient and inpatient units, significantly increasing its ability to manage patients who previously would have required referral to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital.
Waiguru asked residents to support re-election of President William Ruto for a second term in office, saying that the opposition had little to offer the Mt. Kenya region.
The governor challenged voters in Mt. Kenya to prioritize electing leaders with proven development records rather than making electoral decisions based solely on political party affiliations.
She said after carefully assessing the competing political camps and their development agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections, she was convinced Ruto had the best interest for Mt. Kenya.
In making the case for her suitability for the Deputy President position, Waiguru said her experience in government and leadership could help the country in finding solutions to pressing national issues.
Having served two terms as governor, Waiguru said her political ambitions were driven by a desire to serve Kenyans and help President Ruto navigate some of the challenges facing the country.
“I have finished my two terms and now I want to go up. I believe I have the qualifications and experience required to help navigate some of the challenges facing the country,” she said.
The Governor received endorsement from Nyeri Women Representative Rahab Mukami and Kirinyaga Central MP Gachoki Gitari.
Mukami said Waiguru was her preferred candidate for the Deputy President position in 2027 because she had been “tested and proven.”
“My Deputy President candidate for 2027 is Anne Waiguru. She is tested and proven,” Mukami said, urging voters to rally behind one of their own for the country’s second-highest office.
The MP further called for inclusion of women in the country’s top leadership, noting that women had yet to have one of their own occupy the presidency in previous tenures despite their numbers.
