Two more suspects arrested over murder of 65-year-old Meru woman in land dispute

Detectives in Meru have arrested two more suspects believed to have masterminded the murder of 65-year-old Evelyne Mukiri Mbaabu, who was killed inside her home in Kithoka Village on August 7, 2026.

The latest arrests follow investigations linking the suspects to an alleged plot to eliminate Mbaabu over a longstanding land dispute before hiring another suspect to carry out the killing.

The two suspects have been identified as Godwin Kimathi, the deceased’s brother, and Beth Muthomi, a sister to the first suspect, Solomon Kathurima Kairemia, and sister-in-law to the deceased.

According to investigators, the suspects maintained communication both before and after the murder, pointing to alleged prior planning and coordination in the crime.

Their arrest comes after detectives apprehended Kairemia on September 22, 2026, following investigations into the killing.

Mbaabu was murdered at approximately 7:20 p.m. while preparing supper alongside her 13-year-old grandson. The attackers reportedly struck inside her home, killing her in the evening attack.

The latest arrests bring the number of suspects apprehended in connection with the murder to three.

Kimathi and Muthomi have since been arraigned in court, where the court ordered that they be detained pending a mental assessment.

The two are expected to take plea on November 4, 2026, as investigations into the murder continue.
