Unveilling ‘Magical Kenya Souvenir Passport’: How does this tool boost tourism?

The tourism sector is one of the most powerful drivers of Kenya’s economic transformation. The sector remains a major contributor to national GDP, foreign exchange and employment.

Despite the milestone contributions to the Kenyan economy, the Kenya Kwanza Government argues that there still remain vast, untapped potential in the tourism industry. It is for this reason that President William Ruto’s administration has been deliberate in revolutionising the industy through various initiatives to attract more tourists, both local and international. The target is to attain 5.5 million tourist arrivals by 2027.

One of the initiatives is the introduction of the Magical Kenya Souvenir Passport, an innovative digital travel passport and guide to boost tourist numbers.

The Magical Kenya Souvenir Passport will allow travellers to document their experiences while guiding them through Kenya’s diverse tourism ventures.

“We’ve also unveiled the Kenya Souvenir Passport to document your journey with official stamps at every destination. This will allow both Kenyans and our international visitors to document their stay, explore more regions, and engage more deeply with our heritage,” Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano said during the launch of the the Magical Kenya Souvenir Passport on Thursday, December 11 at KICC.

CS Miano: “The Passport will allow both Kenyans and our international visitors to document their stay in Kenya, explore more regions, and engage more deeply with our cultural and natural heritage.”

The passport will be available in both physical and digital formats, with its main objective been; encouraging tourists explorations beyong the well-known traditional spots/attractions.

“It also has a unique Hapa Ni Wapi Platform, providing a guide to explore Kenya’s hidden gems~making it easier than ever to explore our diverse counties and fully experience the Magical Kenya,” CS Miano added.

Features of the Magical Kenya Souvenir Passport

In a nutshell, the passport helps in keeping a personalised record for both domestic and international visitors, with the tool giving them capabilities to collect unique stamps at every tourism destination they visit, or any tourism product they experience.

With the passport, visitors are able to create personalised lasting record of their journey across Kenya’s destinations, be it national parks, cultural hubs, museums, just to name but a few.
