Kenya men’s volleyball team, Wafalme Stars, are stepping up preparations ahead of the 2026 CAVB Men’s African Nations Volleyball Championship, set for September 13th to 26th in Tunis, Tunisia.

The Kenyans secured their place at the continental showpiece after a dominant display in the CAVB Zone Five qualifiers in Uganda, where they maintained a flawless campaign, winning all their matches without dropping a single set.

With the championship also serving as a pathway to the World Championship, Wafalme Stars will be aiming for a podium finish, with the top-ranked team earning an automatic ticket to the global showpiece.

Head coach Tarus is using the preparation period to fine-tune his squad, with the technical bench focusing on tactical organisation, fitness and correcting mistakes that have contributed to the team’s poor results in their recent outings.

The coaching staff are also working on improving the team’s transition play, defensive structure and efficiency in attack as Wafalme seek to rediscover their best form ahead of the Tunis assignment.

The team will rely on experienced players, including captain and setter Brian Melly, who has played professionally in Morocco and Albania.

Powerhouse right and opposite hitter Abiud Chirchir, who plays professionally in France, will also be expected to provide firepower, while middle blocker Simon Kipkorir brings international experience from Tunisia and Saudi Arabia.

Rwanda Energy Group outside hitter Nicholas Matui is another key player expected to play a crucial role in Kenya’s campaign.

Despite their recent struggles in the last outings, Wafalme Stars are targeting a podium finish in Tunis, knowing that a strong performance could not only restore confidence but also secure Kenya a place at the World Championship.
