Where is Abdi Aidid? Eastleigh businessman allegedly abducted by 8 heavily armed men

A family in Eastleigh, Nairobi, is appealing to the government to help find their kin, who was allegedly abducted by unknown individuals at around 8 pm Saturday, March 7.

The family of one Abdi Aidid — a businessman who owns several enterprises in Nairobi, including Atis Suites in Eastleigh and Parklands — says they have received no information about their kin days after the said abduction that took place in Shauri Moyo estate.

His son, Jama Abdi, says the family is worried.

“While at the junction of Shauri Moyo and Yusuf Haji Avenue, he was ambushed by two SUV Prados, one white and one black, as we were told by witnesses. They were armed and they sped away with him. They were around eight men, armed and with jungle green uniforms,” Jamal said.

Eastleigh businessman Abdi Aidid was abducted by heavily armed men near the junction of Shauri Moyo and Mohamed Yusuf Haji Avenue, shortly after he had broken his fast and left his home. They left his vehicle on the road.

At the time of the abduction, Jamal says, Aidid was driving to the mosque when the two vehicles intercepted his. They abductors went away with him leaving his car on the road. His phone was switched off shortly thereafter.

“We have been moving from one office to the other, security office to the other, talking to security agencies and we are not getting any response. We are appealing for those dealing with investigations to help know what is going on. We are not suspecting anyone but if the government took him, we want them to tell us where Mzee is,” Jamal posed.

Preliminary reports indicate that Aidid was in the company of another man at the time of the abduction. The man says that the gunmen, who did not identify themselves, immediately covered their faces with masks and drove off. The gunmen then released him after a short distance, and went with Aidid.

The family has reported the case at Shauri Moyo Police Station as police continue with investigations.

Buruburu DCIO Simon Kirui, who did not want to comment on camera, says they have received the report, and that all the relevant government agencies are on the matter trying to unearth who were the abductors.

The authorities are urging anyone with information that can help with the investigations to share with the police.
