“You didn’t deserve to die this way” — Esther Musila mourns loss of her son

Kenyan media personality Esther Musila, wife to Guardian Angel is mourning a devastating loss, the untimely death of a young man she considered her son, Malakwen. In an emotional and heartfelt tribute, Musila opened up about the depth of their relationship, the pain of his passing, and the dreams that have now been cut tragically short.

While Malakwen was not her biological child, Esther’s words made it clear that their bond was one of unconditional love, respect, and a shared journey that spanned years.

“To a son that I loved like my own, this one has hit hard,” she wrote. “It’s hardly one year since we buried both your parents… and now, you too are gone.”

The pain is intensified by the timing, Malakwen had just begun to see the light at the end of a dark tunnel. After losing both parents less than a year ago, he had started rebuilding his life, sharing with Esther only days before his death that he was excited to join university. He had dreams of becoming a scientist , dreams he would never get to chase.

A Future Full of Promise
Esther recalled their last conversation, moment filled with hope and potential.

“I spoke to you 2 days ago, and I was excited about your plans of enrolling in university. I looked forward to seeing you fulfill your dreams… 2 days later you are no more!”

Her words struck a painful chord, reminder of how fragile life can be, and how quickly it can be taken away.

A Bond That Ran Deep
One of the most touching parts of Esther’s tribute was her reflection on the bond between Malakwen and her youngest son, Glenn K Naibei. Friends since Class 1, the two were more like brothers than classmates. Their loyalty and friendship became a powerful example to Esther of what it means to have someone’s back.

“You and Glenn were inseparable… I learnt from the two of you how to have your brother’s back through thick and thin,” she wrote.

Regret and Anger
As she mourns, Esther did not shy away from expressing her raw emotions , including regret and anger.

“You didn’t deserve to die this way. I am angry! Some of us failed you.”

Though she did not go into the circumstances of his passing, Esther hinted that more could have been done, a sentiment that has sparked reflection across social media, where many are now discussing the importance of checking in on young people navigating grief and life after loss.

Gone Too Soon, But Not Forgotten
Despite the pain, Esther’s tribute ended with a sense of peace. She imagines Malakwen being reunited with the parents he so lovingly cared for in their final moments.

“I believe they saw your suffering and wanted you to join them,” she wrote. “Sleep well Malakwen, rest well.”

Malakwen’s death has touched many who may never have met him, a reflection of how love, community, and compassion can transcend bloodlines. Esther Musila’s tribute serves not only as a farewell to someone she loved, but as a reminder of the fragility of life, and the importance of embracing those we call family, by birth or by bond.
