19 arrested in Trans Nzoia as police seize 2,000 litres of illicit brew and crude weapons

A multi-agency security operation in Kiminini Sub-County, Trans-Nzoia County, has resulted in the arrest of 19 suspects and the seizure of thousands of litres of illicit alcohol during a crackdown on illegal brewing, drug trafficking and criminal gangs.

According to a statement shared by the National Police Service (NPS) on its official X account, the operation was conducted on July 24, 2026, in Waigama, Langas, Mabonde and Maliki villages within Waitaluk Location.

The security team also recovered several crude weapons and destroyed approximately 2,000 litres of illicit brew during the operation.

The suspects were taken into police custody and are expected to be processed before being arraigned in court. The recovered weapons and illicit alcohol have been retained as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.

The National Police Service said the operation forms part of a wider effort to curb criminal activities linked to illegal alcohol and narcotics across the country.

“This operation is part of an ongoing, continuous campaign to eliminate illegal substances and dismantle criminal networks across the country,” the NPS said.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying similar operations in areas identified as hotspots for illicit brewing and organized crime, saying such activities pose a significant threat to public safety and community well-being.

The police also appealed to members of the public to continue supporting law enforcement agencies by providing information that could help combat crime.

“Members of the public are encouraged to report suspicious activities at the nearest police station or through the toll-free numbers 999, 911, or #FichuaKwaDCI on 0800 722 203 or by WhatsApp on 0709 570 000 to report anonymously,” the statement read.

The latest operation underscores the government’s continued crackdown on illicit alcohol and criminal networks as security agencies step up efforts to restore law and order in affected communities across the country.
