211 university students across Kenya to get scholarships as I&M Foundation partners with Help Change Lives

Nairobi, Kenya, 21st October 2026 – I&M Foundation, in partnership with Help Change Lives, is supporting 211 university students across 39 public universities in Kenya through a scholarship programme that provides tuition fees, stipends and laptops, helping to ease financial barriers to higher education while equipping young people with the digital tools needed to succeed in an increasingly technology-driven world.

As part of the initiative, which commenced in September 2026, the students received laptops during a handover ceremony held at I&M Bank Headquarters in Nairobi.

Addressing the students during the handover, I&M Bank Kenya CEO Abdi Mohamed shared lessons from his own journey, encouraging them to remain curious, learn from those around them and make the most of their university experience.

“Education gives you choices. It gives you a chance to take a different path, regardless of where you started. One thing I have learnt in my own journey is that you never stop learning, so stay curious, ask questions and learn from the people around you and not just from your books. Through the I&M Foundation, we are supporting you so that you can focus on your education and discover what you want to do with it. As you move forward, remember to help someone else along the way,” said Abdi.

Head of the I&M Foundation, Dorine Nalo, said the initiative reflects the Foundation’s commitment to making education more accessible while preparing young people for the changing world of work.

“Education remains one of the most powerful ways to transform lives and create opportunities for future generations. However, access to university education alone is not enough. Young people must also have the resources and tools to participate fully in their learning and develop the skills that will enable them to thrive. Through our partnership with Help Change Lives, we are investing not only in the education of 211 students but also in their potential to contribute meaningfully to their communities and Kenya’s future,” said Dorine.

This initiative implemented under the Foundation’s Education and Skills Development pillar recognises that securing university admission is only the first step. Support with the costs of tuition, accommodation and settling into university life is intended to ease financial pressures and help students sustain their education through to completion.

The partnership comes at a time when digital technology, artificial intelligence and automation are reshaping industries and redefining the skills young people need to participate meaningfully in the economy. While universities continue to embrace digital learning, access to reliable devices remains an important factor in ensuring students can fully benefit from these opportunities.

I&M Bank Kenya sustains the Foundation through an annual endowment equivalent to 2% of the Bank’s profit before tax (PBT), reinforcing its long-term commitment to investing in communities.

The partnership reflects the Foundation’s wider approach to social investment working with organisations that bring complementary resources, knowledge and experience to respond to the needs of vulnerable and marginalised communities in Kenya. Through education, the Foundation seeks to expand opportunities for young people while contributing to economic growth and long-term social progress.
