A 62-year-old man has been arrested in Isinya, Kajiado County, over suspected child trafficking and defilement after police officers found him in the company of four children at a bedsitter in Korompoi Trading Centre.
In a statement posted on its X account, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) identified the suspect as Enock Peterson Mwangi, alias Mwamburi Mwandeme. The children were aged 17, 16, five and one year and four months.
The arrest followed an intelligence-led operation that prompted detectives to investigate the circumstances under which the children came into the suspectβs custody.
A subsequent search of a house associated with the suspect in Mashuuru Township uncovered several items, including bags containing childrenβs clothing of different sizes, ranging from newborn to teenage wear.
Detectives also recovered baby shawls, blankets, a baby carrier, baby shoes, adult male clothing, six mattresses, empty diaper carrier bags, duvets, pillows and assorted foodstuffs.
The DCI said the discoveries had prompted further investigations as officers work to establish the circumstances surrounding the childrenβs presence with the suspect.
The man remains in custody as detectives continue gathering evidence. Meanwhile, the four children have been placed under appropriate care and protection and are expected to undergo medical examinations.
The investigative agency reiterated its commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable members of society, warning that individuals found culpable would face the full force of the law.
The DCI urged members of the public to report information that could assist investigations into child trafficking and other offences against minors.
Members of the public can report anonymously through the toll-free number 0800 722 203 or via WhatsApp on 0709 570 000, under the agencyβs #FichuaKwaDCI campaign.
The allegations against the suspect remain subject to investigation, and his guilt has not been established in court.
