After 8 years, three found guilty of luring tycoon Isaac Kassim Jiraw, kidnapping then strangling him to death in Kilifi

More than eight years after businessman Isaac Kassim Jiraw was murdered, justice has finally caught up with his killers.

The High Court in Mombasa has convicted Eddlied Mandi Jilani, Charo Karisa and Makonde Ruwa over the chilling murder that shocked the Coast region.

Justice Wendy Micheni ruled that prosecutors proved beyond reasonable doubt that the three lured Jiraw to Mombasa, kidnapped him and drove him to Langobaya Forest in Kilifi County, where he was strangled with a belt before acid was poured on his body in an attempt to destroy evidence.

The court heard that Jiraw had allegedly been defrauded of more than KSh1.9 million after being promised a Chief Officer position and lucrative county contracts. When the job was awarded to someone else, he demanded his money back—setting off a chain of events that ended in his brutal killing.

Jiraw’s family, led by Abdirahman Kassim Jiraw and Mohamed Rashid Ali Jiraw, welcomed the verdict, saying they had waited more than eight years for justice. Sentencing is scheduled for September 30.

The court revoked the convicts’ bail, ordered them remanded in custody, and issued a warrant for the arrest of another suspect who failed to appear for the judgment.
