Another accident takes life of senior police officer in Kitui

A senior police officer perished in a fatal road accident on Friday night in Kitui County.

The deceased, Philip Mwania, was a police sub-county commander based in Limuru, Kiambu County.

Confirming the incident, Kitui County Commander Leah Kithei, stated that the ill-fated occurrence took place at around 11:30pm Friday.

Apparently, Mwania was involved in a head-on collision with an oncoming lorry leading to his instant demise.

The accident occurred Nzeeu River along the Kitui-Mutomo road. The lorry driver survived unharmed.

The Kitui police boss added that investigations into the accident were ongoing to establish a comprehensive report on what transpired.

Kithei speculated that the deceased senior police officer must have been travelling to his rural home in Nzambani sub-county, Kitui County on Friday night.

The deceased was travelling alone. His body was moved to Kitui County referral hospital mortuary as police made contact with his family.

This comes amid a surge in road accidents in the past few weeks. Two people passed away in an accident in Busia County on Friday after a bus they were travelling in collided with a fuel tanker.

Residents urged government to disburse resources for expansion of the busy highway to avert the road accidents.

The tanker is said to have been ferrying diesel towards the Uganda border while the bus was bound for Mombasa.
