Arsene Wenger thinks Champions League football will affect Arsenal’s EPL chances

Arsene Wenger has cautioned Arsenal that their pursuit of the Premier League title this season might face obstacles due to the club’s return to the Champions League.

Last season, Arsenal held the top spot in the Premier League for the majority of the campaign, only to be overtaken by Manchester City in the closing stages.

The Gunners have kicked off the new season on a positive note, securing three wins and a draw in their first four matches, including a 3-1 victory over Manchester United.

However, City has already established a two-point lead over them.

Wenger shared his thoughts on the Seaman Says podcast, stating, “I think they learned from what happened to them last year. They couldn’t cope well with that. Mentally it was very difficult. I’m sure they would’ve learned from that.”

For the first time in six years, the Gunners are back in the Champions League, and Wenger believes that juggling both Premier League and Champions League commitments could impact his former club’s title aspirations.

“I felt they invested serious money in the last four years, they invested a lot of money, but I must say they invested it well,” remarked the 73-year-old.

The Frenchman also expressed his opinion that City’s chances this season might be diminished due to the injury to Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan’s departure to Barcelona during the summer transfer window.

“I believe as well that Manchester City having lost De Bruyne for a long period and Gundogan, who was a very important player, even if they are a top team I don’t disagree with that, but maybe they can take advantage of it,” he said.

Arsene Wenger managed Arsenal from 1996 to 2018, winning three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups.

His most iconic achievement was the “Invincibles” season in 2003-04 when Arsenal went unbeaten throughout the entire league campaign.
