Babu Owino dismisses fake news on Gachagua’s alleged move to block his 2027 Nairobi Governor bid

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has dismissed reports claiming that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua wants him to drop his bid for Nairobi governor and instead run for the Senate in the 2027 General Election.

Babu took to social media on Wednesday, October 21, to respond to posters circulating online that linked Gachagua to the alleged plan.

He accused his political opponents of spreading false information to weaken his bid for the Nairobi governor’s seat.

“My UNWORTHY OPPONENTS have given up and are now banking on FAKE NEWS,” he wrote.

He added, “Hii Nairobi ilienda kitambo sana,” expressing confidence in his chances of winning the race.

The reports suggested that Gachagua had advised Babu to abandon his gubernatorial ambitions and focus on the Senate seat.

However, the claims have not been independently confirmed, and no direct response from Gachagua was provided.

Babu criticised his rivals, saying he is the only serious contender in the Nairobi governor race.

“The Gubernatorial race is between BABU OWINO vs PAUL ONGILI,” he stated.

Paul Ongili is Babu’s official name, making the remark a humorous way of showing how confident he is about his chances in the race.

He maintains that he will run for Nairobi governor, dismissing calls for him to seek a different seat.
