Former United States President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama, have marked their 33rd wedding anniversary with deeply personal messages celebrating the love, laughter and memories that have kept them together through the years.
Barack Obama took to Instagram on Saturday, October 3, to celebrate Michelle, sharing a photo of the couple alongside a touching message that offered a glimpse into his enduring affection for his wife.
“Happy anniversary, Michelle! I’m still the luckiest guy in the world to be with you,” Obama wrote.
The former president’s heartfelt words quickly drew attention, with Michelle responding with an equally warm message that showed her love for Obama remains as strong as ever.
“Loving you just keeps getting better and better!” Michelle wrote.
She went on to look ahead to the years still to come, raising a toast to more shared moments with her husband.
“Here’s to many, many more years of joy, laughter, and memories to come. 💕” she added.
The couple’s messages offered a rare glimpse into the personal side of their relationship, celebrating a bond that has continued through decades in the public eye, including their years in the White House.
A bittersweet season for the Obama family
The anniversary celebration comes just weeks after the Obamas suffered an emotional loss following the death of their beloved family dog, Sunny.
Obama announced Sunny’s death on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, revealing that the Portuguese Water Dog had been part of the family for 13 years.
“Yesterday, we lost a cherished member of our family,” Obama said.

Sunny joined the Obama family at the beginning of Barack Obama’s second term in the White House and quickly became a beloved member of the household, alongside the family’s first dog, Bo.
“We got Sunny at the start of our second term in the White House, and all of us – including our first dog, Bo – immediately fell in love,” Obama recalled.
He remembered Sunny as energetic, playful and almost impossible to keep up with, particularly when she chased squirrels and birds across the White House lawn.

“We also had trouble keeping up with her, for Sunny was a force of nature,” he said.
Obama also recalled how Sunny valued time with the family more than treats, preferring to play, roll around on the floor or simply have her belly rubbed.
“She was more interested in having us run around with her, roll on the floor with her, or have her belly rubbed for as long as we were willing,” Obama said.
As the Obamas celebrate another milestone together, their anniversary messages offered a poignant reminder of the enduring partnership they continue to share through life’s joyful and difficult moments.
