Blazing Shen out for second victory as Muiruri hopes to dazzle on his debut in boxing

Jin Shen and Muiruri Irungu are gearing up training at the Dragon Fitness Arena in Dagoretti Corner ahead of the third edition of SportPesa Boxing Rising Stars slated for DSTV Multichoice Studios at the ASK Showgrounds in Jamhuri, Nairobi on May 28, 2026.

Irungu, 22, will be making his debut in the championship promoted by Maurice Odera of UFS BXNG while Shen,21, will be going for a second victory following his win on debut at the event in February. He triumphed on unanimous points decision after overcoming Jeremiah Abuko 39-37, 40-36, 40-36.

Irungu will take on John Logove in a Four Round Featherweight duel while Shen will tackle Ellas Njoroge in a Four Round Bantamweight face off.

“I have trained well for this game; I’m definitely looking forward to a second victory because I have worked on my strength and conditioning tactics.

“I also want to thank SportPesa for coming up with this amazing showdown series that is helping to identify new boxing talent across the country.

“My dream is to rise and one day win an Olympic medal for Kenya,” said Shen whose father is Chinese and mother is Kenyan.

On the other hand, Irungu did not only thank gaming firm SportPesa for the mouthwatering boxing shows that have pulled him away from his kick-boxing passion, he is also grateful to what Odera and his promotional body UFS BXNG are doing to elevate the level of boxing in Kenya.

“I have always dreamt to be part of this amazing SportPesa Boxing and I’m happy to finally be set for my debut, all thanks to Odera and his UFS BXNG promotions, they have made this happen.  I’m confident that I’ll nail a superb victory on the night,” noted Irungu.

SportPesa Partnership and Sponsorship Manager Japheth Akhulia, while urging fans across the country not to miss the brilliant mash-up on the D-Day via online link, noted that SportPesa Boxing Rising Stars has become a noble cause that he believe will soon churn out competent talents that will soon ply trade on international platforms, including the Olympics and the World Championships.
