Bus driver arrested after 20kg of cannabis found in PSV boot along Busia – Kisumu road

A Public Service Vehicle driver has been arrested in Busia County after police officers intercepted his bus along the Busia-Kisumu Road and discovered 20 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa hidden in the boot.

Officers from Bumala Police Station, acting on a tip-off, stopped motor vehicle registration number KCP 022H and conducted a search that led to the discovery of a green sack and a black bag containing the narcotics.

Detectives from the National Anti-Narcotics Investigations Bureau established that the consignment did not belong to any passenger on board, pointing directly to the driver’s involvement.

Stephen Otieno Jumbo, alias Barry, 39, was later arrested.

Investigations further revealed that he had been acting in concert with the vehicle’s conductor, Patrick Omondi, who fled the scene during the arrest.

Detectives have intensified efforts to trace and apprehend him.

The driver remains in custody undergoing processing ahead of arraignment, while the recovered narcotics have been secured as exhibits.
