Cast for the highly anticipated new Harry Potter series announced

Fans of J.K. Rowling’s wildly popular wizard-themed novel “Harry Potter” are ecstatic as HBO finally reveals the new cast for the adaptation, which HBO CEO Casey Bloys says will debut in late 2026 or early 2027.

More than 30,000 young actors participated in the extensive search after the studio posted a casting call looking for actors between the ages of 9 and 11 for the roles in hopes of appearing on the big screen.

Yet, newcomers Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout charmed the casting producers as they were the ones chosen as the iconic trio Harry, Hermione, and Ron respectively. All three are expected to bring a fresh new take on the worldly beloved show,

“The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen,” showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod said in a joint statement, expressing their delight at the trio’s casting.

They also expressed gratitude all the young talent who auditioned and how it was a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.

On Wednesday, HBO announced the fresh cast of the series in an Instagram post. The show is a new adaptation of the original books by J.K Rowling, which were previously made into the hit film movies starring Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson. The author Rowling now serves as executive producer on the show and responding to a Harry Potter fan’s X post, she wrote, “All three are wonderful. I couldn’t be happier.”

HBO has said the series will be a faithful adaptation of the books that will span a decade, and they are committed to improving as each season is set to focus on one book which will allow for deeper storytelling and character development that fans say the original films lacked.

This new casting news follows previous announcements for other characters in the show, including John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch.
