Chyulu Hills National Park under fire again!

For the second consecutive time this year, Chyulu Hills National Park is once again battling a raging fire, raising fresh concerns over the safety of the park’s fragile ecosystem.

According to community sources, the fire broke out in two separate areas Yumitundu and Kikunduku prompting an urgent response from park authorities.

Chyulu Senior Warden Peter Njoroge says teams have been working around the clock for the past 24 hours to contain the flames. Several teams have been deployed to different sections of the park as efforts intensify to prevent the fire from spreading further.

Njoroge says park authorities are also working with key agencies to establish the source of the fire and determine whether it was accidental or deliberately started.

The latest incident is not the first time Chyulu Hills has been threatened by fire. A similar blaze last year swept through parts of the hilly park, threatening to destroy a significant portion of its vegetation and wildlife habitat.

Conservationists have previously raised concerns over the possible use of fires by poachers to divert the attention of wildlife authorities, creating an opportunity to access the park undetected.

With the latest fires occurring in multiple locations, authorities are now racing against time to contain the flames while investigations into their cause continue.
