NCBA Bank is seeking to increase consumer uptake of insurance by integrating protection solutions into its banking and investment services, as it positions insurance as a key component of long-term financial planning.
The lender says the approach is already gaining traction, with NCBA Insurance and Bancassurance recording Gross Written Premiums of KSh2.1 billion and KSh2.3 billion respectively in the first half of 2026. Bancassurance premiums grew by 77 per cent year-on-year during the period.

NCBA attributed the growth to the integration of insurance services across its banking and digital platforms, allowing customers to access banking, investment and insurance solutions within one ecosystem.
Speaking during a Bancassurance Forum in Nairobi attended by more than 200 retail and corporate customers, NCBA Bancassurance Intermediary Managing Director and Principal Officer Samuel Odhiambo said insurance should be considered alongside other financial decisions.
“Our role is to bring protection into the conversation from the outset, so that the wealth our customers build is safeguarded with the same intention and purpose with which it was created,” Odhiambo said.
He noted that customers seeking products such as asset finance or working capital also have businesses, incomes and assets that require protection.
The forum focused on wealth preservation, succession planning, business continuity and financial security, reflecting a broader push by the bank to incorporate insurance into customers’ financial journeys rather than treating it as a standalone product.
NCBA Insurance Managing Director Stella Njunge said the bank was seeking to eliminate the need for customers to source financial services separately.
“We see insurance not as a separate financial decision, but one embedded in a customer’s financial journey aligned to their assets, family and business needs,” Njunge said.
The push comes as Kenya’s insurance penetration remains low at about 2.3 per cent of GDP, underscoring the potential for wider uptake of financial protection products.
NCBA said it aims to shift the insurance conversation from transactions towards financial wellbeing, using its banking and digital platforms to make insurance more accessible and relevant to customers.
The lender said the strategy forms part of its broader Ubuntu strategy, which seeks to support customers across different stages of their financial journeys while strengthening its role in building, preserving and protecting wealth.
