Drama at Kitui Governor’s as goons clash with dealers who had come to repossess a staff’s car; police officers sustain injuries

Drama ensued at Kitui Governor’s office last week when staff of a vehicles dealer company tried to repossess a car owned by a county employee.

It all started on Thursday, June 6 at around 7:30 pm when Geoffrey Edali, Hassan Haji and Adan Abdullahi (officials of Al Hiram company) arrived at the premises.

They had come with the intention of repossessing a black Mazda (Reg No. KDM 015J) owned by a county employee identified as Melid Margaret.

But as soon as the trio could embark on the exercise, a police report filed at Kitui Police Station says that a group of about five goons arrived at the scene, to prevent them from repossessing the said vehicle.

“As a result, the said company personnel ran towards the gate for safety with the goons in hot pursuit,” the report reads in part.

Police officers Joan Ruguru and John Mutai, who were performing sentry duties at the Governor’s Office, managed to rescue the three Al Hiram personnel.

The ensuing melee led to officer Ruguru sustaining serious injury on her right index finger.

“One of the goons bit her on the finger losing the tip part of that index finger. The goons then fled away. She was rushed to Kitui Referral Hospital where she was attended to and discharged in a fair condition,” the report adds.

Two of Al Hiram men also suffered injuries; Geoffrey Edali, the team leader, was hit on the right shoulder with a blunt object and he sustained another soft tissue injury on the left sheen below the knee. Hassan Haji complained of back pain.

The Mazda Saloon car which was the centre of confrontation was towed to Kitui Police Station.

The Officer Commanding Kitui Police Station is investigating the incident.
