EACC arrests Uasin Gishu lands officer over alleged KSh100,000 bribery scandal

A clerical officer attached to the Uasin Gishu Lands Office has been charged in court with soliciting and receiving a bribe from a member of the public to facilitate a land subdivision process.

In a statement on Monday, June 8, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) said Noah Kipkemboi Rotich was arrested and arraigned over allegations of corruption linked to the processing of land documents.

According to the Commission, the case stemmed from a complaint alleging that the officer had demanded money from a landowner in exchange for facilitating the subdivision of land.

Investigations by the anti-graft agency established that Rotich allegedly sought KSh100,000 from the complainant and later received a portion of the money.

“The case arose from a complaint received by the Commission alleging that Rotich had demanded a bribe to facilitate the subdivision process. Investigations established that he had solicited KSh100,000 from the complainant and received part of the bribe,” EACC said.

Following the investigations, the Commission forwarded the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who approved criminal charges against the suspect.

Rotich was subsequently presented before court and charged with receiving a bribe contrary to the provisions of the Bribery Act, 2016.

The court released him on a cash bail of KSh30,000 or an alternative bond of KSh100,000 pending the hearing and determination of the case.

EACC reiterated its commitment to tackling corruption in public institutions and promoting integrity in the delivery of public services.

“The Commission remains committed to combating corruption and promoting integrity in public service,” the statement said.
