The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced a series of partial road closures across Nairobi to facilitate ongoing drainage and bridge construction projects, with motorists advised to use alternative routes and expect traffic disruptions.
In public notices issued on Monday, June 8, KURA said sections of Kenyatta Avenue, Valley Road and Jakaya Kikwete Road will be partially closed for eight months, from June 12, 2026, to February 12, 2027.
“We wish to notify the general public that sections of Kenyatta Avenue, Valley Road and Jakaya Kikwete Road will be partially closed as from Friday, 12th June 2026 till Friday, 12th February 2027,” KURA said.
The authority explained that the extended closure is necessary to facilitate bridge construction works under ongoing road infrastructure improvement projects within the city.
KURA also announced a four-month partial closure of a section of Haile Selassie Avenue, which will run from June 12 to October 12, 2026.
“We wish to notify the general public that a section of Haile Selassie Avenue will be partially closed as from Friday, 12th June 2026 till Monday, 12th October 2026,” the notice stated.
According to the authority, the closure will allow contractors to undertake bridge construction works while ensuring the safety of road users.
KURA also announced a one-week partial closure of a section of Ngong Road between Windy Ridge and Westwood Park Road from June 11 to June 18, 2026.
“We wish to notify the general public that a section of Ngong Road will be partially closed as from Thursday, 11th June 2026 till Thursday, 18th June 2026,” the authority said.
KURA noted that the temporary closure will enable the installation of twin cross culverts along the affected stretch.
“This is to allow the contractor to install twin cross culverts along Ngong Road at the section between Windy Ridge and Westwood Park Road,” it added.
The authority advised motorists to use designated diversion routes and follow directions from traffic police officers and marshals deployed at the affected sections, apologising for inconveniences caused by the closures, saying the projects are part of efforts to improve Nairobi’s transport infrastructure and urban mobility.
KURA said a section of Ngong Road between Windy Ridge and Westwood Park Road will be partially closed for one week from June 11 to June 18, 2026.
“We wish to notify the general public that a section of Ngong Road will be partially closed as from Thursday, 11th June 2026 till Thursday, 18th June 2026,” the authority said.
KURA explained that the temporary closure will allow contractors to install twin cross culverts along the affected section.
“This is to allow the contractor to install twin cross culverts along Ngong Road at the section between Windy Ridge and Westwood Park Road,” the notice stated.
The authority also announced a four-month partial closure of a section of Haile Selassie Avenue beginning June 12, 2026, to pave the way for bridge construction works.
“We wish to notify the general public that a section of Haile Selassie Avenue will be partially closed as from Friday, 12th June 2026 till Monday, 12th October 2026,” KURA said.
According to the authority, the works are aimed at facilitating the construction of a bridge while maintaining the safety of road users and minimising traffic interruptions.
At the same time, KURA issued another notice informing motorists of an eight-month partial closure affecting sections of Kenyatta Avenue, Valley Road and Jakaya Kikwete Road.
The closure will take effect from June 12, 2026, and remain in place until February 12, 2027.
“We wish to notify the general public that sections of Kenyatta Avenue, Valley Road and Jakaya Kikwete Road will be partially closed as from Friday, 12th June 2026 till Friday, 12th February 2027,” the authority said.
KURA noted that the extended closure is necessary to facilitate bridge construction works as part of ongoing efforts to improve transport infrastructure within the city.
The authority also urged motorists to follow the designated diversion routes and obey directions from traffic police officers and marshals deployed at the affected areas apologising for the inconveniences likely to be caused by the works, saying the projects are aimed at enhancing mobility and improving Nairobi’s road network.
