Tension remains high in the Morita-Romos area along the West Pokot-Turkana border following a series of deadly bandit attacks.

Residents say repeated killings have left families living in fear, with some forced to abandon their homes and daily economic activities.

Locals staged peaceful protests to condemn the attacks and pressure the government to take urgent action to restore security in the volatile border region. 

The protesters called for increased security patrols and deployment of more security officers to protect communities.

Residents say continued insecurity is disrupting livelihoods, particularly for pastoralist families who depend on livestock for their income and food. They are also concerned that the attacks could trigger further retaliatory violence between communities living along the border.

The residents are now demanding that the government intensify efforts to disarm bandits and apprehend those behind the killings. 

They have also called for investigations into the source of illegal firearms being used in attacks and urged security agencies to act before more lives are lost.

As tension continues to simmer in Morita-Romos, local leaders and residents are urging the government to treat the situation as an emergency and put in place lasting measures to secure the border. 

They say only sustained security operations, dialogue and cooperation between neighbouring communities can restore peace and allow residents to resume their normal lives.

West Pokot leaders and residents have demanded increased security deployments in areas including Romos, Apuko and Morita, while also calling for the disarmament of suspected bandits and investigations into the source of illegal firearms allegedly being used in the attacks.
