The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed the arrest of popular comedian and activist Eric Omondi.
According to a statement posted on its official X account, the DCI said Omondi was picked up at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) today, Friday 5 June 2026, by detectives from DCI Central working jointly with the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) Nairobi Region. He is being held at the Nairobi Region DCI Headquarters.
Omondi’s arrest is linked to criminal offences allegedly committed under the guise of the recent fuel-related protests in Nairobi. The DCI noted that several other suspects connected to the same incidents were arrested and arraigned on 18 May 2026.
Even as the DCI recognized the constitutional right to peaceful assembly and demonstration, it has warned that criminal activities masked as protests would be dealt with firmly. “No matter where you hide, the long arm of the law will catch up with you,” the statement read in part.
