FIFA cancels World Cup 2026 tickets sold for free after website glitch, fans given 7 days to pay full price

FIFA has cancelled World Cup 2026 tickets that were accidentally sold to fans after a pricing glitch on its official ticketing website allowed some purchases to go through at incorrect, and in some cases zero dollar, prices.

In an email sent to affected customers, FIFA confirmed it had identified and resolved a ticketing system error that caused certain tickets sold on FIFA.com/tickets on May 21, 2026 to display inaccurate prices at checkout and in completed transaction records.

All orders affected by the pricing error have since been cancelled, with FIFA confirming that full refunds will be issued for all payments made.

However, FIFA has not let the affected fans walk away empty-handed.

The organisation has reserved the same tickets for the impacted customers to repurchase at the correct price, giving them a seven-day window from the date of the email to complete the purchase through their FIFA ticketing accounts.

Fans who do not act within that period will lose their reservation entirely.

The glitch is reported to have affected around 60 fans who had managed to snap up tickets at the erroneous prices.

While FIFA moved quickly to close the loophole and recover the incorrectly priced tickets, the incident has raised concerns about the reliability of its ticketing systems ahead of the highly anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup 2026.

The tournament will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
