Four suspects have been arrested in separate anti-drug operations in Machakos and Bungoma counties as the National Police Service (NPS) steps up efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks across the country.
In a statement posted on its official X account on July 14, the NPS said officers in Machakos County arrested three suspects and recovered 95 rolls and several grams of suspected cannabis sativa that was allegedly being prepared for distribution.
In a separate operation in Bungoma County, police arrested another suspect who was found in possession of 144 rolls of suspected cannabis sativa.
The four suspects are being held in police custody and are expected to be arraigned in court to face drug-related charges.
The National Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to combating the production, trafficking and distribution of illegal drugs, saying the operations form part of a broader nationwide campaign against narcotics.
“The National Police Service continues to intensify operations as part of ongoing efforts to target the distribution of illicit drugs,” the statement read.
The Service added that it remains focused on dismantling criminal drug networks and bringing those involved in the illegal trade to justice.
“The Service remains resolute in dismantling drug networks and will continue to pursue those engaged in the production, trafficking and distribution of illegal drugs,” NPS said.
The police also appealed to members of the public to support law enforcement efforts by providing credible information that could help identify and apprehend drug traffickers.
“The Service urges members of the public to support these efforts by sharing actionable information,” the statement added.
Members of the public can report drug-related activities at the nearest police station or through the toll-free emergency numbers 999 and 911, the #FichuaKwaDCI hotline on 0800 722 203, or via WhatsApp on 0709 570 000.
The latest arrests underscore the continued crackdown on illicit drugs as authorities seek to curb their circulation in communities across the country.
