Four people have been shot dead following a suspected bandit attack in Itimba-Ithei area of Tseikuru, Kitui County, on Friday, June 5 afternoon.
The attack occurred at around 12:30 p.m. when the armed bandits reportedly invaded the area and opened fire on local residents who had taken their livestock to a watering point.
Authorities are on the scene, assessing the situation.
Robert Mbui, the Kitui County Commissioner, confirmed the incident, noting that communication from the area has been difficult due to poor network coverage.
Security officers have since been deployed to the area and launched a security operation to pursue the attackers.
The affected area is located near Kwa Kamari in the remote parts of Tseikuru where eight people were brutally murdered by suspected camel herders a month ago.
More details are expected as security agencies and local administrators establish the full extent of the attack.
