FPK pushes Dhadho Godhana to contest presidency in 2027 or be president Ruto’s running mate

The Federal Party of Kenya (FPK) has stepped up efforts to rebrand and restructure the party as its leader, Tana River Governor Maj. (Rtd.) Prof. Dhadho Godhana, weighs his options ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Sources within the party say the National Executive Council (NEC) held a meeting this week during which members reviewed proposals for a new party logo and symbol as part of preparations for an official relaunch.

The ongoing restructuring also covers the party’s organisational structure, website, communication materials, colours, dress code, manuals and slogan.

The changes are expected to form part of a broader strategy to reposition FPK and strengthen its presence ahead of the 2027 elections.

Godhana, who has largely kept a low public profile on his political ambitions, is being urged by party members and supporters in the Coast region to seek the presidency.

The governor has, however, not formally declared whether he will contest the presidency, with discussions within the party continuing as preparations for the relaunch gather pace.

Godhana said there is growing pressure from the FPK and the Coast region for him to appear on the ballot in 2027, either as a presidential candidate or as President William Ruto’s running mate.

“The FPK party and Coast region are pushing me to be on the ballot come 2027 or President William Ruto’s running mate,” Godhana said.

The latest developments come as political parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections, with potential presidential candidates and alliances expected to take shape in the coming months.

Godhana has built a reputation for a relatively measured political approach, with his allies describing him as someone who prefers to focus on work and speak when necessary, particularly after delivering on his commitments.

The FPK is expected to complete the rebranding and restructuring process before unveiling the party to the public in an official relaunch.
