Gideon Moi to vie for presidency in 2027, Tony Gachoka reveals: Why vie for senate in 2025?

Gideon Moi will be a candidate for president in 2027, this is according to Tony Gachoka, a Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant.

Speaking exclusively to TV47’s Inea Debarl on Wednesday, October 8 night, Gachoka said that the KANU Party National Chairperson, to whom he has been friends with since childhood, will contest for the country’s top seat, in a bid to unseat President William Ruto.

Last week, KANU announced that Moi will fly the independence party’s flag in the upcoming Baringo Senatorial By-election. But why would a politician who habours presidential ambitions worry about a lesser senatorial seat two years to the general elections?

“The reason why Gideon Moi is running for the senatorial seat in Baringo, is because after sitting down and analysing the political developments in the country, he could not abandon the people of Baringo and the people of Kenya by seeming to sit out a difficult election,” Gachoka told Debarl.

According to Gachoka, Moi is a big shot in Kenya’s national politics, and that vying for the Baringo senatorial seat is only meant to give him the right momentum heading into the 2027 polls.

KANU has been conspicuously missing, acting as a lone ranger, in the recent political formations in the country, gearing up to the 2027 elections. For instance, the Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has since entered into an MoU with President Ruto-led United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in the government. Meanwhile, Rigathi Gachagua’s DCP Party, Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Patriotic Front, Eugene Wamalwa’s DAP-Kenya and other parties have ganged up in the ‘United Oppositon’ against President Ruto’s re-election.

But Gachoka remains unperturbed, insisting that KANU will not be seeking a coalition, albeit at this time. In any case, Gachoka posits that the coalition experiment in Kenya has never worked, and that Raila is a living example who can attest to his assertions.

“The coalition experiment in Kenya has never worked. The coalition experiment in Kenya was started by Raila Odinga when he had the Pentagon. After the Pentagon he went to CORD, after CORD he went to NASA, after NASA he went to Azimio, now he is in Broad-based Government and he still never won the presidency.”
