Four years ago, a brilliant girl from Lake View Primary School in Nandekere Village, Budalangi Constituency, Busia County, had just scored 408 marks in her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination.
At the time, Trizah Nabwire’s star had shone bright, being among the top performing students nationally.
However, things were not so rosy for her, and when reality hit, Nabwire could could not afford to join Limuru Girls National School. Her dreams were about to be cut short, and her story forgotten.
Power of social media…
But one Gordon Opiyo highlighted Nabwire’s plight on social media.
“Four years ago, Fidelis Makhambala alerted me about this brilliant girl from Lake View Primary Nandekere, Budalangi, who got 408 marks and could not afford even fare to Busia, let alone school fees to join Limuru Girls National School,” Opiyo wrote.
Fortunately, an anonymous well-wisher took up the case, and pledged to sponsor Nabwire’s secondary school education.
“I posted about it on my wall, and within minutes an anonymous donor took over. An elder in SDA Church Bungoma, and originally from Kisii, he took over all responsibility.”
On Friday, January 9 when the Ministry of Education released the KCSE results, Opiyo shared an undated photo of Nabwire standing beside a woman, with the background of a mud-thatched house, not out of pity, but to underscore the humble beginnings of Nabwire.
And when the results were out, Nabwire had scored an A (plain) of 81 points! “Today, Trizah Nabwire has just scored clean A of 81 points in KCSE.”
Opiyo was quick to thank the church elder who trooped to Nabwire’s help, exemplifying a rare kind of generosity.
“I am very happy for this act of generosity, from the Elder. Something similar happened in Lugulu Girls with another anonymous donor. Guys, there are good people in this world, and very good people in my group of friends hapa Facebook. May God bless you all.”
