Embakasi East MP Babu Owino received one of his most heartfelt birthday tributes not from a political ally, but from the person who knows him best, his wife Fridah Muthoni, who said God gave her the best husband and father for their children.
Speaking during Babu’s birthday celebration on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Mji wa Huruma Home for the Elderly in Westlands, Nairobi County, Fridah offered a glimpse into a side of her husband that Kenyans rarely see beyond the political arena.
“I am very blessed, to be honest, to have a good husband like Babu. You know, there are things you see out here, how he operates in politics and everything, but I have a husband. God gave me the best, the best of the best,” she said.
She also acknowledged those who had turned up to celebrate him, saying the gathering had ended up blessing their family just as much.
“We thought we were coming here to bless you, but it turns out that you are the ones who have blessed us. We have left here carrying your blessings,” she said.
Fridah then offered a prayer for her husband as he stepped into a new year, asking God to surround him with favour, protect him, and expand his capacity for greater things.
“I pray that favour will surround you like a shield, that you will move from glory to glory for His glory. You are like a light that has been set upon a hill that cannot be hidden, and you will shine not just for Nairobi County or Kenya, but to the nations,” she prayed.
She also declared her belief in a bigger future for him, saying: “I pray that God will enlarge your capacity and your shoulders, because you are not just going to carry this county, you are going to carry this country one day.”
She closed with a personal reflection on faith, encouraging those present to anchor their lives in God.
“Wherever you have God, you cannot go wrong in life. I have come to understand the secret of life, and that secret is God,” she stated.
Babu, who turned 37 on the day, used the occasion to honour his mother, Dorcas Owino, recalling how she sold chang’aa in the slums to put him through school and give him a better life.
He said he wanted to pay tribute to her sacrifices before celebrating himself.
The birthday festivities extended into Monday, October 12, when Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and the Linda Mwananchi team surprised him with a birthday cake, with Babu thanking the team and describing them as more than just political colleagues.
