Homa Bay businesses shut, matatus grounded as youth protest arrest of Kassim Abdi Sebo

Chaos erupted in Homa Bay Town on Thursday, October 8 evening when a group of youth were protesting the arrest of Kassim Abdi Sebo, whom police have described as a “chief goon”.

The youths were trying to block the officers from arresting Sebo, whom authorities have linked to the chaos and violence that marred the Linda Mwananchi rally in Homa Bay Town back in August 2026.

The protests saw roads barricaded, bonfires lit and shops closed as a result.

‎Sebo was apprehended at Homa Bay Bus Stage as officers from Homa Bay Police Station and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) enforced an arrest warrant issued by the Homa Bay Law Courts on August 14, 2026.

According to a police occurrence book report, the warrant concerns allegations of assault causing actual bodily harm, contrary to Section 251 of the Penal Code.
‎
‎Seven other men were also arrested for allegedly obstructing police officers during Sebo’s arrest.

‎The suspects are Achiando Victor Odhiambo, 26, Isaac Masika Muliro, 30, Oyege Moses Geoffrey, 27, Geoffrey Njore, 25, Odhiambo Wesley Arnold, 26, Joseph Kobila, 28, and Alfred Nyagiro Aliwa, 26.
‎
‎The operation was conducted under the command of Homa Bay County Police Commander Lawrence Koilem.
