Police in Embakasi, Nairobi County, have arrested two notorious suspects linked to a spate of housebreakings and carjackings in Utawala and its surrounding areas.
The two suspects, identified as Kelvin Kasyoki and Wilson Waweru, were arrested on Friday, May 30 evening in Thogoto area, by police officers from Ben Square Patrol Base.
Their arrest followed a housebreaking report made at Haiza Apartment in Utawala by Wickliff Nyatika on May 23. On the fateful day, Nyatika told police that he returned from work and found his rented house broken into.
Fortunately for the police officers handling the case, a CCTV camera had captured a suspicious vehicle, and that is where they started their investigations.
With the help of the complainant, they trailed the vehicle, a Mazda CX5, and eventually intercepted it in Thogoto area, where it had been parked outside a bar with four occupants.
“Two managed to escape but the driver namely Kelvin Kasyoki, 29, and Wilson Waweru, 27, who was a passenger arrested and held in custody,” the police report read in part.
The police say that the vehicle’s original registration number, KDD 677P, had a falsified registration number, KDC 007P, which was done to mask the vehicle’s identity.
A thorough search was then conducted, and the police found a number of tools believed to have been used in criminal activity.
Among recovered items from the vehicle include crude weapons such as crowbars for housebreaking, master keys for opening car locks, several falsified vehicle registration numerals, and number plates.
Suspects have been placed in custody at Embakasi Police Station and will assist the police in the investigation of the case.
