“I am no pushover” – CCU candidate warns Wiper, MCC ahead of Mumbuni North by-election

Wiper Patriotic Front and Maendeleo Chap Chap parties have no chance of winning the Mumbuni North Member of County Assembly (MCA) By-elections, this is according to Richard Nzioki.

According to Nzioki, who will fly the Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) flag in the upcoming mini-poll, he has the right experience in grassroot leadership, being a retired assistant chief, to clinch the coveted seat.

Speaking in Machakos Town on Thursday, September 4, Nzioki said that his experience in administration will help him represent the interests of Mumbuni North Ward in the Machakos County Assembly.

“I am here to win. I promise the people of Mumbuni North that I will be their voice in the county assembly and I will use all my experience and knowledge to effectively and efficiently play my roleas an MCA,” Nzioki said when he was unveiled as CCU’s candidate.

CCU Party Secretary-General Phelipe Sadja ruled out any chance to negotiate with any affiliate party to drop their cadidate, insisting that they will campaing for Nzioki till the last day and make a hard political statement to established parties.

“As a party, we took time to appraise and analyse three aspirants who expressed interest to run for the seat on the party’s ticket. As a party, we have settled on Nzioki because he assured us with our support, he was ready to face his opponents and deliver victory,” Sadja said.

CCU also banked on the aspect of Nzioki not being a newcomer in politics.

“Nzioki vied for the same seat in 2022 and managed to get a substantial number of votes. He is a candidate who will not be a pushover in the race because of his enduring popularity on the ground,” Sadja added.

CCU Secretary-General Phillipe Sadja speaks to the press during the unveiling of the party’s candidate for the Mumbuni North Ward by-election on Thursday, September 4, 2025.

The Mumbuni North by-election race has attracted over six candidates so far with giant parties like Wiper facing stiff competition from Maendeleo Chap Chap and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Who recently unveiled their candidates.

The candidates include: Misi Mutua (UDA), Naomi Nzioki (Independent), Harrison Wambua (Maendeleo Chap Chap), Anthony Kisoi (Wiper) and Nzomo Muli (Grand Dreams Development Party).

The seat was left vacant after the death of Gideon Kavuu in August 2023. The late Kavuu was elected on a Maendeleo Chap Chap Party ticket.
