‘I felt it’ – MC Jessy breaks his silence on the pain of losing an election

Comedian and Media Personality MC Jessy has opened up about the emotional toll of losing an election, admitting that the defeat hurt deeply despite his popularity and confidence that he was riding a winning wave.

Despite his popularity and confidence that he was riding a strong political wave, MC Jessy said the moment he realized he had lost was painful. “I felt it. I won’t lie to you, I felt it,” he admitted.

From UDA to Independent Candidate

MC Jessy initially sought to contest the South Imenti MP seat on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.

However, UDA eventually handed its direct nomination ticket to Mwiti Kathaara, effectively ending Jessy’s bid to represent the party in the constituency.

Rather than abandon his political ambitions, Jessy opted to run as an independent candidate.

The move came after he had already built a strong association with UDA and campaigned for then-presidential candidate William Ruto. Jessy later said he had received Ruto’s blessing to contest the parliamentary seat as an independent candidate.

Defeat in South Imenti

On August 9, 2022, Jessy faced voters in the South Imenti parliamentary race as an independent candidate.

He was defeated by Shadrack Ithinji Mwiti, who contested on a Jubilee Party ticket.

For Jessy, the outcome was particularly difficult because of the expectations surrounding his campaign and the confidence he had developed from his popularity and political momentum.

Speaking about the experience years later, Jessy acknowledged just how deeply the loss affected him.

“I felt it. I won’t lie to you, I felt it.”

His admission offers a glimpse into the emotional side of electoral politics, where public support, campaign momentum and personal confidence do not always translate into victory at the ballot box.

MC Jessy Powerful Advise- ‘Dust Yourself Up’

Rather than presenting the defeat as the end of his political journey, Jessy has used the experience to encourage others dealing with failure and disappointment.

He urged people not to become consumed by criticism or what others might say after a setback.

According to Jessy, the important thing is to pick yourself up, stay focused and continue moving forward.

“Don’t give up,” he said, encouraging those facing difficult moments to “dust yourself up” and keep going.

Another political attempt?

Despite the 2022 defeat, Jessy has not completely closed the door on politics.

He has previously indicated that he remains interested in political leadership and could make another attempt in a future election.

His latest comments therefore offer a more personal perspective on an experience that has remained part of his political journey.

For Jessy, the South Imenti loss was more than a failed campaign. It was a lesson in managing expectations, dealing with disappointment and finding the strength to move on.

And as he puts it: you can fall, feel the pain and still get back on your feet.
