President William Ruto on Friday, October 10 visited Kabarak Farm, the residence of the late President Daniel Arap Moi, for a crunch meeting with KANU National Chairperson Gideon Moi.

President Ruto arrived at the Kabarak Farm in Nakuru County aboard a military helicopter, and was welcomed by Gideon, just a day after the latter withdrew from the Baringo Senatorial By-election.

After landing, President Ruto’s first activity was to lay a wreath at the mausoleum of Kenya’s second president.

Ruto would later join Gideon in addressing Kenya African National Union (KANU) grassroots leaders ans supporters from Baringo County.

What Ruto said during the meeting…

If there was a person who was close to Mzee Moi in his last years as president of Kenya, it was William Ruto. Mzee Moi mentored many people, many leaders in many parts of Kenya. He made a huge contribution to our nation. But if there are leaders who were the last borns of Moi’s political life, I am among the last borns.

Kwa kura zenu, kwa maombi yenyu, mimi leo ni kiongozi wa taifa la Kenya, and I don’t take it for granted. Chama cha KANU ilitusaidi kuleta independence katika taifa la Kenya. If there is a political party that must mind about what Kenya becomes, it must be the founding political party called KANU. You must be interested in what happens to Kenya. Our forefathers, the people who made huge sacrifices to found this country called Kenya made huge sacrifices so that we can have a united, prosperous country called Kenya where no citizen is left behind.

I want to ask you as the good people of our founding party of our nation to accept for us to work together. Kubalini tufanye kazi na Gideon, tupeleke mambo mbele. Mimi ndiyo nilikuwa secretary general wa KANU, na sasa tuko na secretary general mwingine hapa Bwana Wainaina. Nataka mkubali ili sasa tuwe na formal engagement kati ya KANU, ili KANU sasa iwe part of the government of Kenya. Sasa hawa watu wamekubali tufanye kazi pamoja.

All these activities are the ripple effectsafter Ruto hosted Gideon at State House Nairobi on Wednesday, October 8.

All indications are pointing towards KANU joining the Broad-Based Government.
